Doors of Perception 8 - INFRA
Welcome to the website and weblog for Doors of Perception 8. The box on the right of your screen lists all the usual notices and announcements you'd expect for a Doors event. The top box, "What & Why", is an introduction to the event -- why we're doing it, what we hope to achieve, and what you should get out of it. Over the coming weeks we will post news items and other stories here, in this web log bit, as we develop the programme for the week-long events next March. We're not sure how the web log and the event will interact, but we invite your suggestions and participation.

How about using the weblog for giving a voice to new constituencies, that could describe and inform the community of their stories in the run-up to Doors week.

Amit, a little bird tells me JT left the building and won't be anywhere the internetl until next wednesday. In case you were wondering about the silence

little birds are known to cause interesting network effects, especially during such boom and bust times. I wonder if this discussion space has the possibility of getting threaded?

An Amsterdam based semi-academic design group made some software that finds links between groups of websites submitted, producing a map of them. You can check it all out at http://www.govcom.org/netlocator.html
I've used the software, it's interesting stuff and (although I haven't yet read the full description of the Delhi 8 event) may be pertinent to the discussion.

Tom: I had a brief look and discovered that the software only runs on PC. We are mac-based. But I'll ask a friend at the J. v. Eyck to tell us more about it. It does look interesting!

Insider: hmmm, that's strange. I know the director of the organisation is both Mac and PC savvy, so the software shouldn't be solely mac-based. I also know he's since been working with it, so the most updated version may not be online; if you're interested, I can inquire about it with him.

PS. did anyone else attend the 'State of Emergency' discussion; I imagine Anslem Frannke's points of islands and borders would be interesting to this discussion list, but I won't bring it up if no one else was there. If you weren't there, you missed a great tirade of Slavoj Zizek!

Cheers Tom!
That little teaser of yours does whet ones appetite. And you can never get enough of Zizek. Loved his short take on the over-hyped, quasi-philosophical posturings of messers Wachowski. Perhaps it might be too much of a digression in this particular thread, but would love it if you could push some links etc of this 'State of Emergency' discussion
